Sweeping the Floor

I have always found sweeping the floor the most theraputic exercise in whatever house i’ve lived in. When I am sweeping, I feel I am always doing exactly the right thing. So when I don’t know what to do, I sweep! When i’m stressed and frustrated, I sweep! I collect up all the dropped crumbs, lego and dirt trampled into the home every day. It’s a routine, symbolic act of service to my family…every day. A sacrificial act that blesses the home and brings it back into order. The same goes for other daily acts, such as picking up dropped coats and shoes flung off, taking the towel out of the bath and picking up toilet roll from the floor. It’s the picking up socks that missed the washing basket and It’s the lovingly made bed, with winter fleece covers, for someone to fall into after a hard day. It’s all an act of service and if done correctly, an act of love. Bringing the house back into that warm, restful abode, away from the cold hard world and it’s harsh expectations.

When i was first married, i decided to go through the Bible with a fine tooth comb, to discover what God required from me as a wife! There were so few examples around me and I just wanted to know what God’s vision for me was and to do that. If i did that, i reasoned, I could have complete peace that when I met with Him, on the final day, I would have confidence I did all I could to please Him in my role! So when I read Titus 2v4 “…urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God…” And right there, I saw a beautiful vision for my life. May God help me to live it!
