A New Day

I’m looking out of our new windows, into the garden where my 7 month old labrador is sniffing the autumn air and no doubt destroying something out there in the process! The house is quiet, except for the very loud processing of my very old desktop computer. Life has changed considerably in the last year. I’ve gone from living on a busy estate, having four children at home all day and homeschooling, to now, all my children are at school, I having a small job at the local school. We have moved into a rural area, into a new house and have a dog. I could not have predicted any one of these events, but in a way nothing really ever changes. We may have a new house, but it still needs upkeeping and repairing. The children still need much attention and care. There is still tiredness and stress and hard work. We have had a year of experiencing the hard bumpy ride of changing direction.

I often walk to the top of a road with my dog and we never turn left. Left is an exposed lonely path, with few places of shade and rarely another dog walker. I like to turn right. Right is familiar and more sheltered. It’s well trodden. Since we have got married, I feel my husband and I have always turned left in life and we have become weathered and used to going the hard, exposed, lesser trodden and at times lonely path. It’s not the most comfortable way to live, yet it always feels more invigorating. It keeps us alive and alert.

So, I know, once things settle down and we have got a handle on living life here…we will no doubt turn left again…
