I’ve always wondered why simple things are often overcomplicated. I used to wonder this mostly in maths lessons, when we were given awkward processes to find an answer that could be found more quickly and simply some other way!
So when I decided to create some pure beeswax out of my bee frames, I came across this frustration once more. I realised that just getting stuck in and learning as you go, is my preferred method.
So here we are getting ‘stuck in’.
I’ll keep it simple…
Remove all the wax from your hive frame, regardless of how dirty it is and put it in some kind of pan, pot etc for heating it up. I used my slow cooker.
Add some water so your wax can melt into the heated water. Then gently heat and stir. You will see the wax starting to melt and the whole solution will start to look quite unattractive.
Once it is all melted together, find some quite fine cotton material. I used some material I had bought to make a under counter curtain. I just cut a big square out. You are going to be using this to strain out the debris and to allow the wax to pass through the cotton’s tiny holes into another receptacle.
Once strained, you will have a mixture of wax and water. Leave the wax to set and it should rise to the top leaving a typical yellow tinted wax.
Store the wax away or melt again and pour into the type of mould you require.
Job done..
Keep it simple 👌
