The art of keeping fit…naturally!

So you want to keep fit, but it doesnt seem to fit in with your homemaking life? Here are some real life inspired idea’s for you…

  1. Buy a small sized axe, like this one and chop your own kindling. Why should the men have all the fun?! Be careful to chop on a wooden surface to prevent stone splinters flying at your eyes. Keep the axe away from the children, as they will with absolutely certainty ‘borrow’ it and chop the legs off your kitchen chairs. I know these things because as a child, my brother got hold of a saw and chopped the legs off his bed. Be warned!
  2. Go to your local farmshop or butchers and buy a 25kg bags of potatoes. Refuse help from anyone and carry/drag them to your car… which you should be sure to have parked down the street. Be careful not to do your back in. This is a cardio and strength workout!
  3. Garden throughout spring, summer and autumn. Gardening is not gentle, it is hard work! If you don’t have a garden, then dig one out of your lawn. Watch your family look on in terror as you courageously dig up the lawn and shovel top soil onto it. Reassure them that they did this during the war. Buy or find some scaffold boards and make a raised bed. Its not difficult, its just a wooden sqaure! If you dont have the space to garden, borrow a plot from your parents, like i did. Or volunteer at your local school or church. Try and spend as much time outside during the warmer months. It’ll soon be over and you’ll be trapped in the house again for 7 months!!!
  4. Clean your house from top to bottom. Scrub floors, clean windows, vacuum. Put music on. This is a full body workout.
  5. Have children and make sure you jump up at their every call. You will be fit for life. You will also however need a dark room to regularly lie down in!
